HAPPY DEEPAVALI GREETINGS!

Dear Clients,

I have immense pleasure in extending my warmest Greetings to you for a Happy and Prosperous Deepavali. Every Festival has its own background and significance and so also Deepavali.

• Deepavali or Diwali is certainly the biggest and brightest of all Hindu Festivals which is being celebrated by Hindus all over India and abroad as well.
• It is the festival of lights and its origin goes back to Centuries & Centuries!
• The objective/belief and method of celebration of course differs from place to place.
• In North, it commemorates the return of Lord Rama along with Sita and Lakshman from their 14 years of exile.
• The Business Community worship Goddess Lakshmi & Lord Ganesa on the day and start their new financial year.
• In Jainism the Deepavali has an added significance in that, the great event of Lord Mahavir attaining the eternal bliss also falls on the day.
• In Bengal the festival is dedicated to the worship of mother Kali and celebrated as Kali pooja.
• Some believe, it is the day of marriage of Goddess Lakshmi with Lord Vishnu.
• In the North, most communities observe the custom of lighting of baked earthen lamps (Agal Vilakku) whereas in the south it is done in Karthigai Festival which comes a fortnight later.
• Deepavali in TamilNadu/South is celebrated in the month of Aipasi (Thula Masam)Chadurdasithithi preceding Amavasai.
• The Festival is based on the conquering of Narakasura, a powerful & cruel Demon King though being the son of Bhoomi Devi by Lord Krishna at the request of Indira. As per the last wish of the Asura the day is celebrated as Deepavali, to mark the triumph of Good over the Evil.
• The festival starts with taking oil bath before sunrise as it is believed that the sacred Ganges flows everywhere at the time including the Wells & pipelines in our Homes.
• It is followed by wearing of new clothes, busting of crackers, tasting of Lekiyam, enjoying the breakfast and variety of sweets and snacks, getting the blessings of elders, rendering prayers, visiting Temples, sharing of Greetings with friends and relatives and last but not least enjoying Pattimandrams in Televisions, seeing new movies and so on….
• During Thalai Deepavali the newly weds celebrate the function in bride’s parental homes.
• Deepavali is one festival that unites the whole of India. Customs may differ but the spirit is the same. The spirit of being celebrative and joyful.
• I recall the old song “ Unnaikandu Naanada..” in Kalyana Parisu which is ever memorable and enjoyable!
• It is said, The demon or devil is very much there within each of us. All our negative qualities like Anger, Lust, Laziness, Greed,Ego,Selfishness,Worries etc are the demons.

Like Lord Krishna destroying Narakasura let us resolve to eliminate or at least minimise our negative qualities from this Deepavalli onwards and march ahead towards brighter future.

Let us also resolve to strengthen our virtues and be more cheerful, more smiling, more positive & more helpful to others henceforth!
